Yvonne Craig
We would be remiss if we didn’t include the late, great Yvonne Craig to our directory. Yvonne is best remembered for her role as Batgirl in the 1960s Batman series with Adam West and Burt Ward. This role instantly made her the first crush for millions of boys across America.
Yvonne Joyce Craig was born on May 16, 1937 in Taylorville, IL, and was raised in Colmbus, OH. This 5’3″ beauty began her career as a ballet dancer with the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo as its youngest member. Her ballet skills were helpful with the stunts she performed in her role as Batgirl. Her earliest television appearances began in 1958 and, after her stint on the Batman series, she worked sporadically in movies and television until the 1970s. Craig starred in roles with Elvis Presley in two films: “It Happened at the World’s Fair” (1963) and “Kissin’ Cousins” (1964). She also starred in the 1966 cult sci-fi film “Mars Needs Women” and appeared in “In Like Flint” (1967) as a Russian ballet dancer opposite James Coburn.
What made Yvonne such an instant boy crush was her curvy, approachable, girl-next-door good looks. And, of course, that form-fitting Batgirl costume may have also contributed considerably (not to mention that black swimsuit from the Batman movie)! In any case, she will be greatly missed.
